Guitar Electronics Similation Software, Is There Any?

I think it would be so cool if someone would develop a guitar electronics simulation program.  I have used similar programs for regular electronics such as Electronics Workbench that allows you to design and build electronic models and run simulated test, all on the computer.  Maybe there is one out there for guitars and I don’t know about it, if there is please give me a heads up.  I know there is a virtual guitar builder at USA Custom Guitars, but that’s only for the guitar’s appearance, not its functionality.

What I would like to see in a guitar electronics simulation program is the ability to connect different pickups, switches, and controls and have it be interactive.  For example, you would start out with an available parts inventory of different pickups, pots, switches etc.  If you decide you want to design a simple one humbucker one volume guitar you would select them and put them into the virtual guitar.  You would then be able to operate the volume knob and visually see how it would effect the circuit, maybe the pickup would become brighter in color as the volume is increase and dimmer as it is decreased.  If you have a multiple pickup design, moving the pickup selector would highlight the pickups and controls active in the different positions.  Adding a coil tap would highlight what coils are active when using it.  Am I crazy, or does this sound like something that has been missing?  Actually, I am surprised that one of the major pickup companies hasn’t already done this.  Or maybe they have and I just haven’t found it.

I came up with this idea after reading a post at World (and Lunar) Domination.  He is one of the many guitarist trying to figure out a good configuration for a project guitar.  Reaching out to people on the internet for input is very cool.  There are many knowledgeable people out there who are more than happy to share what they know.  The hard part is that discussing guitar wiring involves a lot of visualization, it’s easier to look at it than it is to describe it with words.  Having a guitar electronics simulation program that was available on the cloud would make designing and sharing ideas on the web much faster and easier to comprehend.
