CLEVELAND, N.Y. (AP) — A family-owned central New York factory that made wire for guitar strings and the aerospace industry has been destroyed by fire.

James Ransom co-owns United Wire Technologies with his two sons and a partner in New Jersey. He tells the Syracuse Post-Standard (http://bit.ly/JVO5t0 ) that he’s looking for another property in the area to resume operations.

The factory is in the Oswego County town of Cleveland, about 20 miles northeast of Syracuse. Cleveland Fire Chief Carl Avery said a worker running a saw at the plant noticed the fire near the machine shop around 9:30 Sunday morning and called 911.

Fifteen departments joined Cleveland firefighters. They drew water from Oneida Lake to fight the flames.

No one was hurt. The cause remains under investigation.

I don’t know and haven’t been able to find out what brand or possibly brands will be affected by the fire.  I can’t imagine there are many factories that supply the wire for string manufactures.  I got this info from their website and it looks like electric, bass, and acoustic guitar strings could be affected by the fire:

” Within our Music Wire product scope are: Nickel Plated Steel and Nickel Plated Copper, Silver Plated Copper, Brass, and Phosphor Bronze. We offer custom Silver, Nickel, and Gold plated Musical Instrument String Winding Wires as well. “
