Nashville flood brings lawsuit by Gibson, Nissan | The Tennessean | tennessean.com

Looks like Gibson might get some payback from the still unresolved search and seizure the government performed on them in 2011.  Gibson, along with several other companies are suing the federal government for not following protocol during a flood in May 2010.

“the Army Corps of Engineers did not follow its own protocols and computer models or ensure that there was adequate weekend staff on duty as heavy rains fell and flooding began”

If you are unfamiliar with the federal government’s raid on Gibson, here is a video interviewing Gibson’s CEO Henry Juszkiewicz on the topic:

  1. The Feds have really done an injustice to Gibson trying to make an example of them with this broken FUBAR system. I’ve watched literally all the Spruce clear cut and shipped to Taiwan from the pacific north west over the last 15 years for doors and doorjambs that are “feng shui” suitable by Boise Cascade Corp and Georgia Pacific and the feds raid Gibson? Good luck finding a spruce top acoustic guitar anywhere but Taylor in 15 years.

Someone at Gibson forgot to line the proper politicians pocket’s with silver I suspect. What amazes me is the Lacey act which is the law Gibson is being prosecuted over says not a word about precious woods being exported from the US, only woods being imported. This act is so f’d up literally 40% of all vintage guitars can’t be resold by dealers legally anymore because of the Brazilian rosewood fretboard, ridiculous!

All this is going to accomplish with this screw ball law is insure the best instruments in the world will be manufactured abroad with wood partially cut right here in the US putting more crafts men and women out of work. That’s as ass backwards as spending 780 million dollars a year busting legal pot growers in states where the majority have legalized medical canibus. There goes more of my tax dollars wasted by a bunch of inept greedy dolts while our economy crumbles, the homeless are rising and families are being foreclosed on and thrown into the streets.

-Gibson lined Mike Huckabees, certainly not favorable towards the current administration.

-We are brilliant when it comes to making U.S. companies jump through hoops to the point of running them out of the country.

-Have you seen the movie A/k/a/ Tommy Chong?

As long as special interest continue to run the U.S. the future will be bleak. I vote and find myself choosing the lesser of the evils rather the one I truly believe in. Even if a third party that was truly interested in doing right by the people got elected nothing would change. Instead of the left fighting the right, it would be the left and the right fighting against the third party.

  2. I haven’t seen the movie A/k/a/ Tommy Chong but I did see Cheech and Chong live on Tour in 2008 where Tommy spoke in Depth about how, why and what really happened. Sadly according to him he didn’t even own the business nor resided in the state it was located but rather his son was the president of the company who he insists broke no law. Unfortunately his folks funded the start up years before and they did use his name for sales. He also stated that the actual crime had been committed over 130 days prior his arrest but since he’s a Canadian citizen they had to wait for him to move into his summer home in CA before they could arrest him.

I think the way we arrived at a completely corrupt government was through special interest but clearly it’s not the only factor Citizens will have to deal with when a larger amount of the populous push hard for peaceful reform. We have a Supreme Court that has been bought, we have 99% of the stock market owned by 1% of the population with only a handful of political positions having any kind of term limitations. This is historically a recipe for disaster, it’s how Rome fell.

Our education system is designed IMHO to dumb down our population but my view admittedly may be biased coming from a family of educators. I too agree with you they only right and left in this country is it’s populations values. The so called elected officials occupying our state and federal government are nothing more then soap opera actors putting on it’s show for the Jerry Springer crowd our education system has churned out for 20 years like sour milk. The powerful are now clearly in complete control of the nuts and bolts of our tax dollars.

Sadly, one of the reasons this makes me so passionate was going on a pilgrimage from the North boarder of our country to the south boarder looking for a <a href="http://waltonsmusic.wordpress.com/2011/01/26/gibson-usa-unveil-ltd-run-60s-tribute-les-paul-sg/"60's era Les Paul that Gibson produced last year when my brother passed away. A close friend bought one of the first ones off the line that’s just an incredible guitar. I kept borrowing it for gigs I liked it so much I decided to purchase one. Unfortunately I made this decision after the September 2nd raid. I went to 17 guitar centers from WA to Mexico and found a bunch of garbage. Every store had at least two of these Les Pauls, every one was a junk. Even the 3k customs were horrible because of the necks. I would stand up my 7 year old Epiphone Custom fretboard (loaded with JB / SH2) to any 60’s tribute I played in February from Washington to California.

Why should Gibson even make guitars here anymore if they can use any wood they want in their factories abroad? I know there’s one thing we can do and do now as citizens, vote all incumbents out period. I’m not voting for a single incumbent in the next election and my very Conservative Christian family from all over the US is doing the same which, if you knew them you would know how completely epic this is!

I won’t hijack your story with any more politico nonsense Matt, thanks for replying.

  3. Sorry my closing tag was omitted from the link, maybe you could fix that for me 🙂
